The Indianapolis Colts have successfully convinced Kerry Collins to come out of retirement and put on Indianapolis Colts jerseys. Collins was determined to retire on July 7, well before the NFL lockout came to an end, however, it lasted only a month and a half.
Collins is a classic dropback passer with a big arm who can handle all the throws downfield in Indianapolis’ offense.
Collins is very familiar to the Colts coach Jim Caldwell. Serving as Penn State’s quarterbacks coach from 1986 to 1992 under Joe Paterno, Caldwell worked with Collins in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Collins is a serviceable starter at his age, and has proved if he has the right support around him, can be very effective in winning games. But if he has to begin the regular season as the starter, the Colts shouldn’t feel too confident about their playoff chances. It’s unrealistic that without Manning. And the big question, considering Collins is 38, is whether he can hold up behind the team’s work-in-progress offensive line.
