Swamp

¶ 12 February 03

Under the wire for another one of those massive texts where you’re certain you’ve already translated this sentence 84 times in the past two weeks (then fall into depression when you realize you have).

An experience made particularly unpleasant by a certain fellow whose trips to Disneyland with the kids in 1987 and the beaches of Spain in ’92 have rewarded him with a very swishy title, with the word ‘international’ in it, and the need to call several times a day to suggest we replace appropriate terms with words that do not exist (impactualize, restructurate, economicsisity, etc.) and… oh, never mind.

Here are some things that are much more fun:

Foreignword.com: a portal focused on language and translation. Stories from the news and nifty links that include numbers in 4,500 languages and the language museum, along with a collection of articles relating to translation, translator resources, etc.

Abused words.

– And a dictionary of body language.

Woosh…

Oh, and I should point out that I’ve recently had my version of Textpattern upgraded, an experience comparable to finding yourself suddenly behind the wheel of a Ferrari after having only just figured out how to roll up the window on your Ford Fiesta. Mind the toes.
