Snide and Prejudice

¶ 20 March 03

(With gentle apologies to Jane Austen.)

It is a myth universally accepted that a people suffering under a single despot in possession of a good moustache must be in want of invasion.

However little regarded the feelings and views of such a people may be as the invading party enters their neighbourhood, this myth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding lapdogs that it is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their puppets.

“My dear Mr. Hussein’s people,” said Mr. Nemesis to them one day, “have you heard that the Netherworld Park will be yours at last?”

Mr. Hussein’s people replied that they had indeed.

“Indeed it will,” returned he; “for your last hope has just left on the nine o’clock flight, and we shall be quick to go about it.”

Mr. Hussein’s people made no answer as they were too busy running for their lives.

“Do you not want to know how our bombs will save you?” cried Mr. Nemesis impatiently.

“You want to tell us, and we have nothing but objections to hearing it.”

This was invitation enough.

“Why, my dears, you must know…”
