Sans sequitur
¶ 16 October 03
Because of the drought, there will be no fall colours this year. We’ll go straight from the greens to one bland crinkly brown.
The sap lost all sense of initiative, you see, and dropped to the roots too soon.
On Monday, the tobacconists of France will be staging a one-day strike to protest the proposed 20% price hike on cigarettes. Most all the tobacconists in our area are closed on Mondays anyway, which makes the gesture just that much more French.
And, you know, it’s silly to compare Bush to Hitler. Bush was born rich.

- sitting inside, out of the pissing rain, on the otherside of the world (vancouver), it’s wonderful to hear news of the French protesting about issues close to their hearts.
okay, so the tabacs in some parts of France would be closed anyway, but many would not. at any rate one could hardly imagine the tobacco sellers of Canada, Britain or the US actually taking a stand and going on strike over rising prices.
even so, that some tabacs would be closed yet would still take the trouble to strike, even on their day off, just makes me realise the French really do have a good sense of humour. that, or a real sense of commitment.
I think it’s time I stepped outside and sparked up one of my duty free Gauloises.

- And Bush is a terrible artist.
— sjc Oct 17, 1:18pm #
- Isn’t Hitler running California these days?
Oh, wait. Deeply awful Austrian artists with obsessions about physical perfection and inexplicably large political followings are ten-a-penny these days, right?
— Michael A. Oct 17, 4:18pm #
- arnists, not artists.
— katatonik Oct 19, 12:00pm #
- And Bush has no mustache.
And it’s the Hulk who is running our state. Get it right.
— Beerzie Boy Oct 21, 12:52pm #
- Why is comparing Bush to Hitler considered cute on this site? Isn’t it a form of holocaust denial, particularly coming from someone living in a land of people who collaborated with the Nazis?
— IB Bill Oct 27, 4:02pm #
- Bill, it must be humiliating being one of the least-read of the sub-instapundit cheerleaders, but clumsily leaping atop six million holocaust dead and beating your silly empty chest won’t help.
It’s clear enough from your site you’re not very bright. No need to come here to reiterate.
— Charles Oct 27, 6:24pm #
- Charles: Yes, it is quite humiliating. I take issue with the charge my chest is empty. I have quite large pecs, though I’ve had to get back in the gym before the pecs turn into man-boobs. Beating on them might be quite obscene right now.
I like this site. Our host writes with a perfect pitch when she’s not too political. Rarely have I seen such talent. That said, her politics are exactly what you’d expect of a translator living in rural France—but what can you do? Somebody’s gotta do it.
But you’re correct. I’m not very bright. It’s so sad to be so dumb. (sniffle, snort). Take me away before my stupidity infects others.

- * shrug *
