Gilroy’s Grammar Cubes…

… establish a bridge between the written and spoken word, demystifying grammar and allowing students to speak with confidence…

Clever wooden worded cubes (and great suggestions for games) to be used for all levels of ESL teaching – a job which, for me, too often involved the phrase, “oh, crap, what am I going to do today?” (repeat 20x with growing panic while juggling for elbow room in the crowded morning metro rifling through textbooks), and where I found that when seeking to thrust the seeds of dull grammar into students’ noggins, few things were more effective than games.

You’d be surprised by the fierce competitive spirit that lies dormant in the meekest office worker/reluctant ESL student – and how the prospect of beating her boss (or, better still, that annoying guy in the next cubicle) at something provides a spark that would bring global warming to Hades.

So thanks to fellow expat, Andy Meehan, for the tip.

  1. Skookum! Like the equally appealing fridge magnet poetry tiles, but more tactile, and with an additional dimension…

    The next stage: grammar hybercubes?
